Dhaka, the 26th meeting of the Standing Committee on Ministry of Social Welfare of the 11th National Parliament was held today at the National Parliament Building under the chairmanship of Committee President Rashed Khan Menon.

Committee members Md Shibli Sadiq, Nasreen Jahan Ratna, Ah Ka Md Sarwar Jahan, Arma Dutta and Shabnam Jahan participated in the meeting.

In the meeting, the implementation of the ‘National Elderly Policy-2013’ for the welfare of the elderly, as per the report of the Sub-Committee on the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Trust, was discussed and the progress made in implementing the recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee.

In the meeting, recommendations were made for the implementation of the ‘National Senior Citizens Policy-2013′ for the welfare of senior citizens in which all types of vehicles provide low fare travel for senior citizens, construction of roads suitable for senior citizens, introduction of senior citizens’ health insurance and savings cards, provision of affordable medical services, medical colleges, districts and Opening of elderly department in upazila hospital, provision of telemedicine services for the elderly in remote areas, purchase of medicine at low cost through senior citizen card are kept. The Committee recommends the Ministry to take action to implement these initiatives. The meeting is recommended to prepare the National Veterans Foundation Act for Senior Citizens.

In the meeting, it was decided to prepare a summary and send it to the Honorable Prime Minister as per the report of the Sub-Committee on Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Trust.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare, the Director General of the Directorate of Social Services and the senior officials of the Ministry and National Parliament Secretariat.
