New instructions to amend NID by changing birth certificate

Senior Reporter / The Legal Voice 24 Media :

The days of approaching Election Commission (EC) with another birth certificate despite having one birth certificate for amendment of National Identity Card (NID) are over. Because, the Office of the Registrar General of Births and Deaths has written to the EC not to consider such applications.

EC officials said that many apply with birth certificate for NID information change. But while verifying it, it is seen that the concerned person has more than one birth house.

The opinion of the Registrar General of Births and Deaths is sought in determining what to do in this situation. In view of that, the recommendation has been made by the Birth and Death Registration Authority.

The Registrar General of Birth and Death Registration Authority wrote to AKM Humayun Kabir, Director General of NID Division of EC. Rashedul Hasan has recommended three types.

As mentioned in the letter, concerned persons are requested to provide certification as to which birth certificate is correct as the person has multiple birth certificates for the purpose of correcting the national identity card. In case of existence of multiple birth certificates of the individual, the following instructions are requested to be followed—

1) If more than one birth certificate of the same person exists online then that person should be instructed to cancel a birth certificate. When there are two birth registrations online, NID cannot be issued based on those birth registrations.

2) If the same person has two birth certificates (one online and the other manual), then the procedure should be taken according to the birth certificate available online i.e. in BDRIS software.

3) If there are two online birth registrations of the same person, the earlier registration date shall be maintained.

Officials of NID department said, if one does not have SSC or equivalent certificate or any certificate above it, the birth certificate along with eighth Shreli, fifth class certificate is taken into consideration for NID revision. In this, many people took the opportunity to change the NID information by concealing the fact that they have passed the SSC or admitting that they have not passed the SSC and submitting a new birth certificate. From now on, no person will get the opportunity to correct the national identity card by forgery on the basis of birth certificate. In this case, the birth certificate taken earlier will be taken into consideration for NID correction
