Good governance in the land sector is imperative – Land Minister

Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury said that good governance in the land sector is imperative to ensure pro-people land services.
Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury said this while speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the 133rd Survey and Settlement Training Course held at the Central Seminar Hall of Bhumi Bhaban in the capital’s Tejgaon on Sunday. Land Secretary Md Mustafizur Rahman PAA was present as the special guest.
The 6-week training course for 70 officers from Bangladesh Civil Service Administration and Police Cadre, and Bangladesh Judicial Service, organized by the Department of Land Records and Surveys (DLRS), ended today.
While explaining what he hopes for from the public servants the land minister said, “Don’t make people suffer, you have to think out of the box and change your mindset, you have to be cognizant of your duties and you have to think about how to serve the people”. He also urged the trainee officials to strive for ensuring good governance in the land sector.
The land minister also said that the land reform program, which was started under the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to digitalize land services with the motto ‘Land service at your fingertips,’ is now not just a slogan – Today, it is a reality. The land minister added that civil society representatives, , who play a role as watchdogs in the society, are describing the current government’s land reform program as an inspiring initiative that is bringing positive change.
Describing the Land Ministry as one of the top-five performing ministries of the current government, Saifuzzaman Chowdhury said, ‘We should not be complacent about this. We are constantly striving to improve further. Our aim is to perform well and set a precedent for the future. Our goal is to establish a smart and sustainable land management system.
Land Reform Board Chairman Md Abu Bakr Siddique and Land Appeal Board Chairman A K M Shamimul Huq Siddique attended the closing ceremony as honorable guest. The event was chaired by Land Record and Survey Department DG Md. Abdul Barik. Officials from the Ministry of Land and the Land Record and Survey Department (DLRS) were also present.
DLRS director Ejaz Ahmed Jaber, director of this course, delivered the welcome address at the event. Three officers receiving the training spoke on behalf of their fellow trainees. Later, the Minister of Land distributed certificates among the trainee officers who participated in the course.
