Senior Reporter / Thelegalvoice24.com :
Department of Health has given notice to 34 thousand 835 merit list candidates to apply for admission in private medical colleges.
Department of Health has notified that a part who passed the admission test in this year’s medical college will not have the chance of admission; BPMCA, the association of private medical colleges, has requested to change that.
The Bangladesh Private Medical College Association (BPMCA) wrote a letter to the Health Ministry on the same day expressing concern over the Health Department’s decision on Thursday.
In the letter, the organization said, if the 10/12 year rule is changed, many seats in private medical schools will remain vacant. A section of students may go abroad.
Besides, in the case of admission of foreign students, GP 3.5 (grade point in each subject) has been demanded as before.
In this regard, Director General of the Department of Health Education Professor Md. Titu Mia told bdnews24.com that the government has taken this decision to improve the quality of education.
“The government is aware enough to ensure that there is no irregularity in recruitment.”
Regarding the letter of BPMCA, he said that there was a discussion between them. But no decision was made. If the government thinks so after understanding the situation, it can consider the matter.
This year, 1 lakh 35 thousand 813 students participated in the entrance examination and 49 thousand 194 passed. Out of this, 4,350 people will get admission in the government medical college based on their merit, the Department of Health Education announced on March 12.
Later on last Thursday another notification of the Directorate informed that 34 thousand 835 students of the prepared merit list will be able to apply for admission to private medical colleges.
As such, 39 thousand 185 people can apply for admission to government and private medical schools. All those who passed under the previous rule could apply for medical admission.
In the letter sent to the ministry, BPMCA claimed that the passing of 49 thousand 194 people means that all of them have the opportunity to get admission in government and private medical colleges. It is their legal and fundamental right.

It is also said on behalf of the organization that there is a possibility of legal complications as a section is suddenly not given the opportunity to apply for admission even after passing.
On the other hand, in the case of foreign students, it is mentioned in the letter that many will not come to study in this country as GP 4 (grade point per subject) has been set for biology.
The letter mentions that about 200 crores of revenue is earned from foreign students, the government will lose this revenue if 3 and a half GP is not restored as before
