Education Minister said that some of the private universities of the country have the ability to give MPhil-PAED degrees. Deepu Moni. He said that these universities and those universities which have developed capacity in a particular subject will also be able to conduct MPhil-PhD.

He said this at the 23rd convocation of Independent University, Bangladesh on Sunday (March 19) as a representative of the President and Acharya of the University.

Renowned economist Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud spoke as the convocation speaker. IUB Board of Trustees Chairman Abdul Hai Sarkar, Education Science Technology and Cultural Development Trust Vice Chairman Mrs. Salma Karim, IUB Vice Chancellor Tanveer Hasan also spoke. At the end of the program, IUB Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmad Khan thanked everyone present. It was attended by IUB trustees, parents and IUB teachers and officials.

Minister of Education Dr. Dipu Moni said that some of the private universities of the country have the capacity to give PhDs and conduct research. So we will talk to UGC. The work should start by considering the universities which have developed that capacity and in which particular subject. I will talk to UGC very soon.

The education minister said, ‘We want to ensure transparency and accountability at all levels of education. There is no substitute for increasing the quality of education. The work of improving the structural standards of private universities is going on. The Private Universities Act-2010 has opened the door of possibilities in the field of higher education. It is essential to develop skilled manpower in our country for the development of the country. That is why private universities are playing a significant role. The government has extensive initiatives in higher education.

He further added, ‘We are trying to increase the capacity of the University Grants Commission (UGC), formed the Bangladesh Accreditation Council, formulated the Bangladesh National Qualification Framework, formulated the Blended Education Masterplan.
